About Dukkan Avantique
Being a third culture kid, raised across different countries and cultures, is a journey of dancing between worlds. There’s often a sense of never fully belonging anywhere, yet every place leaves an indelible mark. We are shaped by many cities, languages, and cultures, and this is what makes us stand out: adaptable, vibrant, and colorful.
The realization that there is power in not being tethered to a single place, but rather belonging to many, became the seed for something greater. Embodying this idea, Dukkan Avantique was born—a celebration of the spirit of third culture kids, global citizens, those who are continuously shaped by the diversity around them.
The name "Dukkan Avantique" itself is a fusion of languages and meanings that mirror our multicultural identity. Dukkan, meaning "store" in Arabic, evokes the memory of an old local shop where people meet, exchange stories, and share experiences—a metaphor for the cultural exchanges that shape us. Avantique, blending "avant-garde" and "antique," speaks to our approach of honoring both bold, innovative ideas and the timeless traditions that ground us. Just like the way we effortlessly speak in Arabic, English, and sometimes French in a single sentence, Dukkan Avantique celebrates the seamless blending of the old and new, the global and local.
At Dukkan Avantique, our designs are more than just clothing—they are works of art, reflecting a lifetime of cultural immersion and creative exploration. Our design process draws from a diverse range of techniques, including photography, one-line art, collage and digital manipulation, each method influenced by the many places and cultures we've encountered. Every garment is a canvas for a journey that evokes the beauty of cultural fusion. It tells a story, stitched together with the experiences of past and present, tradition and innovation. Our in-house creations are an expression of our ever-evolving story, one that continues to be written through the art we make.
We invite you to wear art that reflects your true self, embracing your multifaceted identity and the beautiful complexity of living in a world full of diversity.
To every third culture kid out there: You are seen, you are celebrated. This is your story.
Meet the Founders
Dukkan Avantique was born on July 7th 2021 by two best friends in their early twenties.
Sally Batha is Palestinian-Indian. She graduated from the University of Leeds in 2020 with a bachelors in International Business and Finance. Sally is continuing years of experience working in a financial-technology company where she works with many big retailers in the industry.
Rima Rokh, is a Palestinian Jordanian self taught artist. She was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, studied in the UK and is currently living between Amman and Dubai. As a third culture kid, she was intrigued by the diverse faces and places, colors and shapes she encountered, kindling within her a fervor for the arts. Despite pursuing a career in strategy consulting, her passion for art never wavered. She continued to explore widely and feel deeply, learning to weave tales through her lens. In her designs time is transcended and boundaries dissolve as vibrant and boundless patterns come to life.
Both were connected through their love for fashion, art and entrepreneurial spirit.
To the founders, Dukkan Avantique is a mood. An old soul that adventures into an artistic and edgy persona.
